The Library Services Platform (LSP) is a unified resource management system enabling California community college libraries to manage both print and electronic resources using a cloud-based library services platform. In 2020, the California Community Colleges (CCC) implemented this systemwide LSP to more effectively connect all students with the most useful, high quality resources in a collection. The LSP has replaced the various library systems previously used by 110 participating community colleges across the state. This participation is in partnership with the Community College League of California (CCLC) and the Council of Chief Librarians (CCL), with oversight by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO).
Each participating college has local control over functional aspects of the platform, while being able to take advantage of shared opportunities for cataloging, e-resource data, and other services. Individual librarians, librarians in work groups, and LSP staff contribute and collaborate throughout the year to support operations, practices, policies, with costs—including training and support—funded by the LSP project, with CCL as vendor for CCCCO.
The Council of Chief Librarians (CCL) is a professional organization that exists to support the work of California’s community college librarians and library programs. Its purpose is to represent, promote and advance libraries in public California community college education; to provide a vehicle for communication, discussion and collaboration among libraries; to provide opportunities for professional development, training and leadership development for library leaders and other librarians; and to support data collection, analysis and dissemination for the purpose of good public policy development.
